Message from Isaiah Kiplagat

This year marks the 47th running of the Safari Rally, an event that has grown over the years into one of the most exciting and unique motor-sporting adventures of all time.

In line with emerging trends in global motorsport, we at Safari Rally Ltd have had to re-organise and, in certain areas, re-format our event to fit in with what is becoming an increasingly professional and commercial sport. This has meant allying ourselves with commercial partners to generate the funds required to put on an event as grand as the Safari. This has not been easy, and will not be easy in the future. But Safari Rally Ltd continues to seek and forge new alliances that will enable it grow and expand its financial base to cope with these increasing demands.

For this year’s rally I am pleased to note that our commercial partners are all Kenyan – and true supporters of our event.

Without these companies, Safari would not be where and what it is. It is thanks to them that the event’s international standing is it what it is today. It remains our earnest hope that these partnerships will continue to the benefit of everyone. And with that, I would like to wish you all an enjoyable and safe Safari.

Super Competitive

The 1999 Route may have been designed to suit the latest in International FIA Rules, which always emphasise what is best in terms of safety and driver benefit. However, this year the result has been a bonus for spectators who have the chance of seeing the cars during daylight, close to home and more often than ever before – and all without moving far.

The running of this Super Competitive is new to the Safari Rally in 1999 and is a must for any Safari enthusiast.

All the cars will attempt the section in a new Head to Head format that basically means two cars racing against each other, side by side, on different but parallel tracks. This format is used widely elsewhere in the world but is a first for Kenya.
